Angered South Sudanese nationals storm a police station in Khartoum after death of a teenager in prison.

November 15, 2021—Angry South Sudanese in Khartoum reportedly stormed a police station after a young South Sudanese national died in a police custody, an activist Achol Malong Deng announced.

In a statement, a Khartoum based South Sudanese activist, Achol Malong Deng said Police have reportedly raided an area known as Hai Mayo last week around 3:00 Am and took away four young men.

She revealed that some members of the Criminal Investigation Department or CID apprehended young men and took them into a detention facility where they were brutally tortured.

Achol said a 18-year old young man identified as Akech Ajak Ramadan succumbed to injuries sustained as a result of police brutality.

She also confirmed that three other detainees, who are still in detention facility have experienced severe injuries, one of them has suffered a broken leg from police brutality.

In a protest, some angered South Sudanese together with Sudanese residents in Hai Mayo stormed “Yarmouk police station”, and plundered some properties including vehicles and motorcycles at police station.

“On Friday, at around 10:00 AM, some South Sudanese stormed the police station together with their Sudanese friends. When they heard that the deceased had been killed and told that it was the police,” Deng told Eye Radio via telephone from Khartoum over weekend.

The activist also confirmed that a case has been filled to investigate the matter surrounding the death of the young man.

She reiterated that the family of the deceased has rejected to take away the body, demanding for explanations regarding the circumstance.

Last month, a South Sudan university student was shot dead in Khartoum at a bus station for reasons that are yet to be disclosed.
