August 30th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s former army chief and leader of South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) General Paul Malong has said that five vice-president positions created by the 2018 peace agreement are not the solution to the conflict in the country.

South Sudan government and opposition groups in September last year signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement to end the war.

The agreement provided for the establishment of a First Vice-President position and other four Vice-President positions.

In an exclusive interview with Nyamilepedia this week, Malong said he is opposed to the creation of 5 VP positions saying the South Sudan problem is not the number of VP.

“The significance of the agreement is just words. If not this, has it been implemented now?” General Malong asked.

“You are in Egypt, and as a country,  does Egypt have five vice-presidents? Does America, which is almost a continent, have five vice-presidents? The quarter of the world, the China, do they have five vice-presidents?” he further asked.

Malong then wondered if the problem for South Sudan is because it did not have five vice-presidents and whether having now five vice-presidents would solve the conflict.

“Do you believe that the five vice-presidents is the only problem for South Sudan? Do you believe that if you at made a FVP or vice-president that would be the solution to the conflict? General Malong asked.
