Lt. Gen Johnson Olony meets government delegations in anticipation for his appointment as governor
Oct 29, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The SPLM/A-IO gubernatorial nominee and former governor of the now defunct Fashoda state, Lt. Gen. Johnson Olony, has met senior officials in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, in bit for his appointment as the governor of the Upper Nile State.
Lt. Gen. Olony met South Sudan’s Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Agok Makur Kur, last Thursday, October 22, 2020 and met the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs today Thursday October 29, 2020.
While meeting Lt. Gen. Olony last week, the Deputy Minister of Finance revealed that president Kiir has agreed to approve his appointment.
“On my arrival in Khartoum on Thursday evening, October 22, 2020, I met Gen. Johnson Olony, the opposition candidate and the prospective governor of Upper Nile State” Hon. Makur said.
The Deputy minister of finance appreciated the warm welcome he received from Gen. Olony and briefed him on his mission.
“I informed him that President Salva Kiir will soon appoint him and the nation is awaiting a presidential decree for his appointment” Makur told a local media in his recent interview.
The Deputy Minister said they discussed a range of issues that include implementation of the peace agreement and the situation in Upper Nile State.
“We discussed a range of issues including the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement and particularly the situation in Upper Nile state.” Makur said.
Hon. Agok Makur thanks Gen. Olony “for this kind spirit and for shaking hands in a brilliant gesture”.
Latest news from Khartoum also revealed that Lt. Gen. Olony has met with the minister of Defence, Hon. Anjelina Teny, today on the sideline of the Sudan-South Sudan Cooperation Agreement discussion.
Gen. Olony, who is a powerful military general that is currently serving under the ranks and files of the SPLM/A-IO, has been a subject of interest since he broke ranks with President Salva Kiir amind the conflict in 2014.
Olony enjoys popular support among the Chollo community and feel at ease under the SPLM/A-IO leadership.
He has resisted orders to go to Juba since 2014; however, he said he will travel to Juba to be sworn in once appointed the governor of Upper Nile State.
