September 12th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardiit and prominent opposition and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny have signed the long-awaited peace agreement to end the South Sudan’s brutal civil war.

The deal will establish a Transitional government in South Sudan that will be led by Kiir and Machar and four other vice presidents who will have the same rank and will be formed in eight months from today.

The agreement was also signed by Chansong Chang, leader of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance on behalf of the Alliance groups as well as other opposition groups in Juba, civil society representatives and faith-based groups.

The revitalized deal ends South Sudan’s five-year old conflict which broke out in the nation’s capital Juba following a flareup of fighting within Presidential Guards after a national convention for the ruling SPLM party turned violent.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, President Salva Kiir expressed his readiness and commitment to “fully” implement the agreement, a similar stance also aired by opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

South Sudan’s National Salvation Front (NAS) led by Thomas Cirilo and People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) led by Dr. Hakim Dario are not part of the deal as they protest what they call ‘fragile’ agreement influenced by the regime in Juba.
