Civil society servant robbed in Rumbek, culprits went away with 165,700 SSP

August 14th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) said in a statement to the Nyamilepedia on Tuesday that one of its staffs had been robbed by unknown gunmen in former Lakes States.

The incident, according to the statement, occurred in Saturday near Bhar Naam cattle camp of the in Rumbek East.

“A staff Community Empowerment for Progress Organization CEPO in Lakes region from Rumbek East was on Saturday 11/08/2018 robbed at the gun point by unknown gunmen near Bhar-Naam cattle camp of former Rumbek East,” the civil society organization said in a statement.

The statement identified the victim as Peter Mayor who was beaten by the unknown robbers after taking his bag in which he was caring a sum of 165,700 South Sudanese Pounds.

“Peter Mayor was found carrying amount of SSP 165,700 (One Hundred Sixty-Five Thousands Seven Hundred South Sudanese Pounds) in the evening at around 6 O’clock which he was beaten and they attackers went away with bag that has money,” the statement said.

The statement further said the money which were looted were mean for the execution of a community-based project and other programs for the members of the organization in the state.

The statement added that the incident resulted into minor injuries for the Peter Mayor and that it had been reported to the police urging the authorities to bring the culprits to book

“This incidents is unfair because the looted money where meant to conduct community safety activities that will help people in the area to have peace and stability. We condemned it and we discourage such incidences not to occur again because such incidences will not allow us to rescue needy people on the ground,” the statement further said.
