BREAKING: Sudan’s Bashir unveil new peace plan for South Sudan

July 5th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Sudanese President Field Marshal Omar Hassan Al-Bashir has today, Thursday, unveiled a new peace plan for parties to the South Sudan conflict according to a version of the proposal seen by the Nyamilepedia. The new peace plan, however differ from the early one proposed by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) during the last round of the High-Level Revitalization Forum.

According to the new peace proposal released today, the Council of Ministers will comprise of thirty ministers divided into three clusters. The government will have a number of 17 Ministers, SPLM-IO under Machar will have 8 ministers, other political groups will have three as follow; 2 for the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), SPLM former detainees will have 2 and 1 for other political parties

 

According to the peace proposal tabled by the Sudanese mediating government, incumbent President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, would maintain his position during the thirty-six month interim period. Machar, who previously served as the country’s First Vice-President until July 2016 will be reinstated and the government would appoint the second vice President beside another vice president which would be nominated by the other political parties.

The peace plan also seek to extend the number of the law makers in the national parliament to 440. government would get 266, SPLM-IO under Machar will have 106, South Sudan Opposition Alliance would have 46 and other political parties will have 17 seats plus 5 for the SPLM former political detainees.
