June 25th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon met today the Sudanese President Field Marshal Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir in a preparatory meeting ahead of the face-to-face talks between him and Salva Kiir Mayardiit.

Sources in Khartoum confirmed the high-level meeting between the two leaders. Kiir also met Al-Bashir at the Sudanese Presidency and is set to meet Machar in few moments.

“I can confirm that comrade chairman has met the Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir in the Presidential Palace. He will meet with President Kiir shortly to discuss the outstanding issues,” the source said.

Another source told the Nyamilepedia, beside a statement by the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that Machar will stay in Khartoum for a duration of two weeks pending a a final decision by the IGAD heads of state and government over his final status.

“Dr. Machar will stay here for a period of two weeks but can travel to any country of his choice provide that it is outside the IGAD region. A final decision by the IGAD on his status will be issued in early July 2018,” the source said.

The Sudanese foreign ministry aired a similar position on Sunday regarding Machar’s stay.

“But Machar will remain in Khartoum for the duration of the negotiations. During the two-week period or at the end of the talks before the specified period, Machar can leave for any other capital, provided it is not adjacent to South Sudan,” he stressed.
