It is nothing and it will remain nothing to our movement.” Lt. Gen. Thok Chuol Luak said.
“Therefore, I would like to advice you not to listen and avoid communicating with those desperate group and ignore them.” he continued.
Gen. Luak reminds Taban group that their defection like any other defection will not affect the armed opposition or the unity of the Nuer community.
“I hope you all witnessed the defection of some generals and Nuer elders but the movement remained United and nothing had changed our aspirations and hope for the better South Sudan.” Luak said.
The military leadership of SPLA-IO reiterates its readiness for both peace and war, and calls on President Salva Kiir to decide if he wants peace or war – threatening that the SPLA in opposition will bring war to Juba if Salva Kiir wants war.
“Finally, if Salva Kiir needs peace, we will support peace if opted for war as he had made it in Juba we will take war nearer to his residential area (J1) and I am sure he had smelt the smoke of weapons . let us continue to support our Chairman and the entire leadership of our movement.” Luak concludes.
The First Vice President, Dr. Machar, withdrawn from Juba on July 12th with over 1300 troops to avoid further escalation of the conflict in the capital.
Although calm returns to Juba, Machar with his infantry protection unity encountered heavy attacks along Juba-Yei road on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
In a letter written on Friday, July 22nd 2016, Machar sacked General Taban Deng Gai from SPLM/SPLA in Opposition and also removed him from the Ministry of Mining – pending Salva Kiir’s approval.
Machar has called on SPLA-IO field commanders to cut off all essential communication with comrades Taban until further notice.
