John Kerry urges South Sudan leaders to hold peace talks

The US Secretary of State, John Kerry, says the South Sudanese president has agreed to peace talks aimed at ending the conflict in the country.

John Kerry said the meeting between President Salva Kiir and his former deputy, Riek Machar, could take place as early as next week.

Mr Kerry was speaking after talks in the capital Juba.

Alastair Leithead is in Juba for Mr Kerry’s visit.
