October 7th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The East African Community (EAC) has been urged to reconsider sanctioning South Sudan over its failure to pay its membership fees.

The International Youth for Africa (IYA), a non- governmental entity based in Uganda, said in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia that sanctioning South Sudan will worsen the already fragile situation.

I urge all the member states to be tolerant until South Sudan make it total commitment to the regional block,” Ter Manyang Gatwech, the Executive Director of IYA said.

What benefit South Sudan gets from the East African Community,” Manyang asked. “South Sudanese citizens are not permitted to work in East African Community countries while other East African Citizens for example, Ugandans and Kenyans are working in NGO sector in Juba.”

East African Community violate article (6) fundamental principles of the community and (7) it operation principles of the community (2) ‘The partner states undertake to abide by the principles of good governance, including adherence to the democracy, the rule of law, strong institutions, social justice and the maintenance of universally accepted standards of human Rights’. This is same EAC that admitted South Sudan without considering the operation principles of the community in it treaty.”
