January 15th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – The United States government has told the ruling coalition in Sudan to first pay compensation for families of terrorism before it is eventually removed from the list of State Sponsor of Terrorism.
There is currently a Sudanese delegation in Washington to discuss the removal of the country – which is in a transition – from the list of State Sponsor of Terrorism that was imposed by the United States almost three decades ago.
In a statement, the US State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said that the meeting reviewed “the need for Sudan to meet all relevant policy and statutory criteria for rescission” of Sudan’s SST designation.
“The Under Secretary underscored that compensation for the victims of terrorism remains a priority for the U.S. government,” Ortagus stressed.
In December last year, the Sudanese Prime minister Abdalla Hamdok who was returning from Washington said talks with the Trump Administration over the issue was progress and that the only issue remaining was the compensation for victims of terror attacks.
“The last pending issue is the agreement on compensation for the victims of terrorist attacks,” he said before to point that ultimately the issue remains a state responsibility.
