Sept 28, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– Meeting South Sudan First Vice President, Gen. Taban Deng Gai, the US ambassador to the United Nation, Amb. Samantha Power, underscored that Obama’s Administration is willing to work with Salva Kiir’s government but only if South Sudan would allow deployment of the Regional Intervention Force into its capital.

Amb. Power warned Taban that the government must demonstrate concrete progress toward the deployment of Regional Protection Force (RPF) under the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS).

Ambassador Power also emphasized the urgent need for the government to remove obstacles to UNMISS in performing its mandate and to stop the obstruction of humanitarian aid delivery.

Power also stressed that the government must hold accountable those responsible for the July 11 attack on the Terrain compound in Juba.

She also urged the TGNU to move forward quickly in adopting legislation establishing the Hybrid Court for South Sudan, a critical tool for ending impunity in South Sudan.

It is not clear if Juba will comply to implement all these guarantees to work with an administration that may lose the next election in less than two months from now.

Within this year, Salva Kiir’s presidential guards opened heavy fire on American diplomats after a dinner at presidential palace in Juba. Although this act was committed by guards whom president Salva Kiir may know by names, none has been held accountable.

The army has also looted World Food Program stores and raped over 200 women in July in matters of days, acts that have been widely condemned, however, the Obama Administration has remained reluctance on its pledges compared to its swift actions in Syria, Iraq and Libya.
