April 30th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s defunct Unity State governor of Northern Liech state Nguen Mantuil Wijang on Sunday dismissed his deputy Maj. Gen. George Ruony Kot and replaced him with younger man, Brig. Gen. Larka Machar Turoal according to a gubernatorial degree read-out at the government-run Bentiu Radio FM 99 on Saturday evening.

The degree did not cite reasons for the dismissal.

Maj. Gen. George Rouny Kot was one of the SPLM-IO commanders who deserted the movement in 2016 and joined the government in Juba through the country’s First Vice President Taban Deng Gai who defected in July 2016.

Larka, 35, like his predecessor George Ruony, held from the defunct Unity State’s Rubkona county and has been previously an outspoken SPLM-IO member under the former First Vice President Riek Machar Teny until his defection to Taban Deng Gai in late 2016.

Bentiu, the state capital, is currently under the control of government troops although its suburbs are still under the control of opposition troops loyal to the SPLM-IO faction under Riek Machar.
