June 11, 2020 (Nyamilepedia)We are annoyed and angered by your continued lack of unanimity in appointing the ten state Governors of South Sudan. In February 2020, you took oath of office in public, to implement the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCISS).

We are however surprised to witnessed lack of team work and blatant disregard for this agreement on your part as Presidency. This sign of disunity is double betrayal to an impoverish South Sudanese and the international community. Your lack of commitment and consensus is becoming worse. And the absence of state Governors is uncalled for.

Even though you were antagonistic at the beginning but this agreement requires you to join hands and work as team to restore peace within stipulated timeframe. Under this peace agreement we are supposed to have ten state governors by February 2020. This long delay is your own making, and it is bad for the peace agreement.

The vast oil-rich region of Unity State is one of the ten States that is greatly affected by the lack of Governor and county commissioners. The communities there have intensified their forays against each other and the neighboring regions.

If they will have no governor and county commissioners again in this June and July many shall perish in huge number. The antidote therefore is for you to nominate our governor sooner than later. We don’t mind who do the nomination, and we don’t care who s/he is as long as s/he a son and daughter of Unity State.

We want our governor now, so that together we can embark on unity and reconciliation drive in earnest. Should this logical demand be ignored and delayed than it will be very unfortunate to have crowded Presidency that has ears which cannot hear us in our time of need. Ordinary South Sudanese wherever they may be are at the point of death, and as our late brother, George Perry Floyd said to his Killer, Derek Chauvin before he died that ‘‘he can’t breathe’’ we really ‘can’t breathe’’ because of your delay tactics.

Signed by:

  1. Dak Buoth, Chairman
  2. Machar Gattot Chiok, Vice Chairman and Secretary for Finance
  3. Sebit Moulpiny Lam, Acting Secretary General

CC:

  1. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President, South Sudan

  3. Dr. James Wani Igga,  Vice President, South Sudan
  4. Gen. Taban Deng Gai, Vice President, South Sudan
