August 5th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Thousands of South Sudanese expatriates in the Sudanese capital Khartoum gathers outside the Qa’aa Al-Sadaka, or friendship hall as South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, and prominent opposition and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon are set to sign the final peace deal today.

President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar are both in the Sudanese capital Khartoum to sign peace agreement in an effort led by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to end the ongoing civil war in South Sudan.

Speaking to the Nyamilepedia this afternoon, a number of South Sudanese refugees who fled to Sudan since early 2014 said the signing of the agreement by the two leaders create hope for their return to South Sudan.

“By this peace, we will return to South Sudan, our mother land. Our leaders should not make mistake this time, they have seen that there is no winner in this war, finally, they are ending the war with talks. Talking is the end to everything,” Nyan-Ajang Anter, one of the people gathered outside the hall said.

Another South Sudanese Khartoum resident said  that all what she want is to return back to South Sudan without any hindrances and risk to her life and that of her children.

“I want to go back to South Sudan, I only want to go back peacefully so that my life and the life of my children is not endangered,” she said.

Today’s peace, if signed, will end Africa’s most deadly conflict which started in December 2018 after a convention for the ruling party turned violence leading to army mutiny both in Juba and other parts of the country.
