Sudan to sign trade agreement with South Sudan

Jan 9, 2021(Nyamilepedia) — Sudanese Acting Foreign Minister Hon. Omar Qamar al-Din said that Sudan and South Sudan will sign a trade agreement that will enhance trade between the two countries.

He said that the agreements will involve trade and transport.

“We promise that between the two countries, we are going to have all the trade agreements, all the transport and other agreements that will make it easier for you to enjoy the Sudanese products and for your fellow Sudanese in the north to enjoy the products of South Sudan,” Al Din told journalists in Juba.

Hon Omar stressed that trade and exchange will have a lot of benefits for both countries.

“The benefits that we are going to get from trade and exchange of many aspects in life are important for all of us,” he said.

“After all, we always look at it as two countries which have the same people so the test is the same and we care about each other.” He added,

Dr. Dhieu Mathok Diing, South Sudan’s Minister of Trade and Investment, said that the event that will take place for seven days will bring traders together

“The event will continue for seven days starting from 7th January. The products will be showcased and the official opening of the event will be on 9th January. It will be opened by H.E President Salva Kiir, and Deputy Head of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council, Gen. Mohammed Hamdan Daglo will attend the event,” Dr. Dhieu said.

“The ministers in the transitional government, diplomats and business people are invited to attend the opening of the event. The general public is also invited to come starting from 9th January,” he added.

The two countries will hold their first trade exhibition in Juba this week that will feature products from leading Sudanese industrial companies. 

South Sudan is expected to show products, including sesame, sorghum and teak.

According to the event organizer Yusuf Salah, food products from both countries will be the main products on display.

“It is about food and culture,” he said.

“We will continue working on supplying goods to South Sudan after the trade fair. People in South Sudan need goods from Sudan.” He added

South Sudan gained its independence from Sudan in 2011. ​​​​​​​
