August 5, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —– South Sudan’s armed opposition, SPLM/SPLA-IO, welcomes the today’s communique of IGAD heads of states and partners in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The summit concludes that for the Agreement on Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan(ARCISS) to be implemented in letter and spirit, a regional “protection force” must be deployed in South Sudan to protect national installations and civilians in the country.
According to James Gatdet Dak, the press secretary of SPLM/SPLA-IO chairman, the summit ruled the current collision government “illegal, null and void”.

“IGAD Heads of State and Government Summit in Addis Ababa, Friday, August 5, 2016, has declared the “illegal” leadership changes in Juba as null and void.” Gatdet sai.
“In their resolution, Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the SPLM/SPLA (IO), Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, remains the legitimate First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan. Whoever sneaked in the office illegally in violation of the August 2015 peace agreement should step down.” Dak said referring to his former Chief Negotiator, Taban Deng Gai.
He believes that all the SPLM-IO ministers, who were “illegally replaced” by Taban Deng Gai and Salva Kiir will be reinstated under their legitimate leader, Dr. Machar.
Dak believes that the regional force that will be deployed will protect the leadership, officials and the citizens of South Sudan.
“A third party force will be deployed in Juba to protect the leadership of the country, their officials and the citizens.” Dak said.
The two parties, President Kiir’s faction led by General Taban Deng Gai, and SPLM/SPLA (IO) under the leadership of Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, were informed of the decision of the IGAD.
Gatdet was pleased with the outcome of the meeting saying that their demands are met.
“On our part as SPLM/SPLA (IO), this is what we have been saying to undo that illegal process in Juba. President Kiir’s delegation had no choice but to accept the IGAD resolutions too. Soon Chiefs of General Staff of Armed Forces in the region will go to Juba to prepare for troops deployment.” he said.
“The leadership of the SPLM/SPLA (IO) welcomes the resolution of the IGAD Heads of State and Government.” he continued.
