July 14th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The South Sudanese community in the United Kingdom, in a statement dated July 11, has rejected the Entebbe proposal and subsequently urged the African Union to takeover the ongoing South Sudan peace process.

The Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and his Sudanese counterparts Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir last weekend presented a peace proposal that seek to create a presidency of four vice presidents and a cabinet with 45 ministers in the country.

The South Sudanese community in the Great Britain said they call for the East African bloc, IGAD, to relinquish the mediation and pass the peace process to the African Union in which the new mediator would be assisted by the UN urging troika to reconsider support for the failed IGAD mediation.

“We hereby again repeat our call for the mediation responsibility to be passed to the African Union supported by the UN and the Troika. We also call upon the Troika and international community to review their support to a failing IGAD mediation,” the statement dated July 11th partly read.

The statement further rejected the Entebbe proposal which they said repeated the Bridging Proposal presented by the IGAD in early May in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

“We for the above stated reasons reject the Entebbe Proposal as it is none but a repetition of the so-called IGAD’s Bridging Proposal which was met with overwhelming rejection by all patriotic South Sudanese because it ignores the root causes of the conflict. We strongly believe that some members of the mediation team are trying to bulldoze an agreement to legitimize the illegitimate, diabolical, ethnocentric, unpopular and failed Kiir’s regime,” the statement further said.

The statement was signed by leaders of South Sudan’s three regions of Greater Upper Nile, the Greater Equatoria and the Greater Bhar Al-Ghazal.
