South Sudan to procure COVID-19 vaccine from Europe

March 4, 2021(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan National Taskforce on Covid-19 led by the Vice President for Services Delivery Cluster, H.E. Hussein Abdelbaggi Akol, has said that the country is in the process of procuring COVID-19 Vaccine from Europe.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Hon. Dr Mayen Machut Achiek, said this after the National Taskforce also briefed H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit on the status of the procurement of the Covid-19 vaccine to the Country.“South Sudan has opted for Britain’s Astrazeneca’s vaccine and all the technical procedures have been completed and soon the Country will receive its first consignment of Covid-19 vaccine,” said Hon. Dr. Mayen Machut Achiek.

The National Taskforce had held a meeting with the president to brief him on the recent surge in Covid-19 pandemic in the Country and around the world, as well as the efforts that have been made by the task force and the Ministry of Health to curb the spread of the pandemic across the Country.

According to the presidential press, the National Taskforce suggested extra measures to curb the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

“…due to the recent surge in the Covid-19 pandemic in the Country, the National Taskforce suggested extra measures to be put in place across the country to curb the spread of the pandemic. Hon. Dr Mayen Machut Achiek said, the Taskforce presented numerous recommendations to H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit and national security organs for further deliberations and feedback and hopefully in a few days the task force will come out with a major communication in regards to Covid-19,” read the statement.

The presidential press added that besides the increase in the cases of covid-19 across the Country, the task force is also mindful of the precautionary measures, not to squeeze the citizens so much due to the economic hardship urging the public to always remain calm with the measures undertaken to control the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
