February 20th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s ex-envoy to Russia, Telar Riing Deng, has declared his intention to join the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, led by first vice president designate Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

Telar who resigned from the ruling SPLM party two days ago said he was joining the Machar-led movement to restore reforms.

“I am glad to officially write to you my intention to join SPLM–IO. This note confirms my unwavering support for your leadership,” he said in a letter addressed to Machar dated February 20.

Telar added that he was joining the SPLM-IO to carry out “reforms agenda; rule of law and good governance as envisaged in the Revitalised Agreement for the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).”

Telar who was formerly a presidential advisor resigned from the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) on Tuesday because he said it was difficult to work with President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
