South Sudan Presidency agrees to establish states and local governments without Upper Nile State

Dec 09, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — In a meeting that convened South Sudan presidency and attended by the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Martin Elia, and the Acting Minister of the Presidential Affairs, Hon. Nhial Deng, the presidency agreed to the establishment of nine states and local governments.

“Today, Wednesday the 9th December 2020, H.E the president Salva Kiir Mayardit Convened the fourth meeting of the presidency, which was attended by the first Vice president Dr Riek Machar Teny and the Vice Presidents Dr James Wani Igga, Hussein Abdall-Bagi Akil, Taban Deng Gai and Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior in the office of the president.” Read part of a statement that was released by Martin Elia Lomuro.

“In attendance also was the presidential advisor for security Tut Gatluak Manime and Dr Martin Elia Lomuro, the minister of Cabinet Affairs and acting minister for presidential affairs,”  The Statement added.

According to Hon. Martin Elia, the “objective of the meeting was to discuss the establishment of the State and Local Government of the Republic of South Sudan.”

Hon. Elia listed that the meeting agreed on four main areas that include the establishment of states and local governments of nine states with the exception of the Upper Nile State.

“That the president appoint the State and Local Government of the Nine(9) States” Martin Elia reports.

The presidency also agreed to establish the Revitalized Transitional National Legislative Assembly and the Council of States.

“The President proceeds to establish the Revitalized Transitional National Legislative Assembly and the Council of States” Martin Elia added.

Elia also said the presidency will convene the communities of Upper Nile State to discuss and to engender harmony in the state prior to a final decision on the appointment of the governor of that state.

In addition, Elia said President Salva Kiir will issue a decree to harmonize the decisions made by the presidency.

“H.E the president shall issue a decree to harmonize the above decisions to the presidency.”
