August 10, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan parties to the revitalized peace agreement and the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) have this afternoon reached an agreement to divided power in the state, a senior opposition official said.

The latest development marks a crucial step in the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement which ended the seven-year-old civil war in the world’s youngest country in February this year.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this evening, senior SPLM-IO member Dut Majokdit said from Juba that the parties have reached an agreement on how many seats are allocated to which party, but said negotiations will continue to work out to identify details.

“Yes we have reached an agreement with the other parties. There will be ten deputy governors, ten speakers of state parliaments, five state advisors, seventeen ministers,” Dut said.

Below is the document agreed upon by the parties on the power-sharing in the states.

“The parties will continue Tomorrow with the allocation of the States Ministerial Portfolios, Counties and independent Commissions,” he added.

The senior opposition official further urged President Salva Kiir to accept and nominate General Johnson Olony as governor of Upper Nile state.

“The SPLM-IO calls upon President Salva Kiir Mayardit to Appoint General Johnson Olony as the Governor of Upper Nile State. So that we go ahead with the formation of the States Governments,” he said.
