June 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Some South Sudan lawmakers at the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) want the country’s finance minister, Salvatore Garang, be replaced for failing to change anything about the failing economy, sources with knowledge said.

Last week, members of parliament decided to boycott a deliberation on financial budget of the year proposed by the South Sudan government saying the government must first pay civil servants and the military their salaries which has not been paid since beginning of the year before any discussion about the budget.

One parliamentarian source told the Nyamilepedia that some lawmakers exchanged words with the finance minister about the salary issue with some reportedly saying he should be dismissed from the position of minister of finance.

Some exchanged very disturbing words with him. He was told, for example, by an MP that he failed and that he should be dismissed from his position as the minister of finance,” the parliamentary source told the Nyamilepedia on condition of anonymity.

He further said many lawmakers believe the country is in a very bad economic situation that require someone with more economic knowledge than Garang.
