October 30th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government on Monday opened the much-awaited new terminal at the Juba International Airport which has been under construction since 2016.

Initially, the new terminal was expected to be completed and open in three months but due to economic shortcomings encountered by the young African nation, the completion was pushed to late 2018.

In a ceremony to mark the launch of the new terminal on Monday, senior South Sudan government officials including the vice president James Wani Igga, Defense Minister Kuol Manyang Juuk as well as the information minister Michael Makuei Lueth lauded the opened of the new airport terminal.

South Sudan minister of Transport, John Luk Joak who was there during the launch said the only international airport in the country’s capital Juba is the only gateway for South Sudan and there outside world.

“Air travelers have been facing very, very difficult time, especially during the rainy season.  We do not have access to the sea, so this requires the fact that Juba International Airport is our main gateway to the immediate region and to the whole world,” Mr. Luk said.

Minister John Luk further said his ministry will upgrade other regional airports accross South Sudanese states and plans to build another airport in Tali, in the newly created Terekeka State.

“We have this idea of a building a new International airport at Tali.  It is important for us in the ministry of Transport now and the Civil Aviation that we have to upgrade all the states airports,” he added.
