South Sudan: Cabinet to meet via video conference as fears of coronavirus escalates

April 10, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan cabinet will conduct the governments weekly cabinet meeting via video conference, sources close to president Salva Kiir said on Thursday.

This comes as fears over the outbreak of the novel coronavirus escalates following an announcement by president Kiir that a third case of COVID-19 tested positive following a surprise announcement early this week.

One source said from Juba that the president has directed the ministry of information to procure devices and video screens to be used by the president, the first vice president and the vice presidents as well as the ministers from home.

“The president has directed for that action. The president H.E Gen. Salva Kiir Mayatdit has ordered the ministry of information to transport devices if they would not be found here in our Juba market,” the source said.

“These devices will be used by the president and his deputies plus the ministers from their homes or their offices,” the source added.

A second source said there was fears among the senior government officials in the “cabinet and many prefer the use of technology to conduct their businesses.”
