August 21st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan academic and former minister has hailed the appointment of SPLA war veteran General Alfred Akwoch as the Minister of Wildlife replacing Jemma Nunu Kumba.

Kiir on Monday made a partial cabinet reshuffle in which he appointed Awut Deng who was the Minister of Gender as the first-ever female foreign minister for South Sudan.

Dr. Adwok Nyaba, a renowned academic and ex-minister in South Sudan’s government, hailed the appointment of General Akwoch as the country’s Minister of Wildlife.

“President Salva Kiir’s appointment of Gen. Alfred Akwoch Abong as Minister for Forestry, Wildlife and Environment deserves celebration and indeed glorification,” Nyaba wrote on his Facebook page.

“I take this opportunity to thank President Salva Kiir Mayardit for his confidence in and the decision to appoint his colleague in the SPLA,” he added.

According to Nyaba, General Akwoch was one of the first rebel officers to rebel against the Sudanese government in Bor in 1983 at the beginning of what would become the Africa’s longest civil war.

“Gen. Alfred Akwoch was one of the officers who fought and wounded in action in Bor on May 16, 1983.  His star shone in the first days of the war of liberation but then began, by some malice of fate, to dim and almost died out, just before 19 August 2019 when the President of the Republic appointed him Minister in the Transitional Government of National Unity,” he said.

“I also take this opportunity to whole-heartedly congratulate comrade Gen Alfred Akwoch and wish him every success in his new assignment,” he concluded.
