April 2nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) which fractured in December 2013 has backtracted on dateline it initially issued to missing members who are currently in a opposition position.
In December 2013, the ruling party fractured following a dispute during a convention conducted at the Nyakuron Cultural Centre in Juba. The party split into three factions with first deputy chairman, Machar forming an armed opposition against the government.
Pagan Amum and other officials detained at the onset of the conflict made up the Former Detainees (FDs).
In January 2015, the three factions signed an agreement to reunite in a bid to end the civil that was the SPLM’s making.
In February this year, three SPLM factions issued a one-month ultimatum from Juba telling ‘missing members’ such as Machar and Pagan Amum – among others – to report to Juba to take up their possitions in the party following a reunification announcement.
The Eye Radio quoted the SPLM spokesman, Peter Lam Both as saying: “The chairman has not yet acted on the committee recommendations, and therefore no deadline is yet given to anyone.”
