August 30, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— Executive Director of Makerere Institute of Social Research in Kampala and Member of AU Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan, Professor Mahmood Mamdani, says the Republic of South Sudan has never had a national army since the signing of Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005 in Kenya.

Addressing civil society organizations in Kampala as a keynote speaker on the theme “Transcending the Shadow of Violence: Alternatives for Fostering Inclusive State Building and Sustainable Peace in South Sudan’’ Mamdani calls for international intervention force to be deployed in South Sudan.

Civil society organizations that attended the Public Dialogue on South Sudan crisis, organized by Makerere University Convocation, include South Sudan Human Rights Society for Advocacy (SSHRSA), African Youth Acton Network (AYAN) and African Youth Acton Network (AYAN) among others.

One of the aims of the Public Dialogue is to provide a platform for inclusive state building and sustainable peace in South Sudan.

The scholar says South Sudan has never run an independent election as a sovereign nation reiterating that President Salva Kiir was elected before South Sudan seceded from Sudan.

Prof. Mamdani calls on South Sudanese leaders to work for the welfare of the country and work together for peace in South Sudan.

The Ugandan academician, author and political commentator calls for the reinstatement of SPLM/A in Opposition leader, Dr. Riek Machar, into his position as the First Vice President of South Sudan because, in his own view, peace in South Sudan cannot be achieved by violating ARCISS.

While highlighting how Great Britain colonized Sudan, Mahmood Mamdani surprises the audience by stating that the Nuer have never been colonized by foreign powers, “they vigorously fought for resistant”.

He concludes by blaming IGAD, Troika and South Sudan peace actors for failing South Sudan since 2005 when they could have saved the country before submerged into civil war.

Kir has always violated the Aujust Peace Accord but this last violation which has push Machar is dangerous for South Sudan and the sub regiom. The sub region and the international community need to act to save the country from going back to war.
Kir is the problem and must be forced to accept the full implementation of the peace deal. Othewise South Sudan is doom.

Infact that is the really statements of professor.somebody with asoundful minds and sensitive on on the truth, you are absolutely correct many time mamdani, if all the people like you in uganda , there could be no intereference in south sudan,Nuer had never been colonized by british during the colonial era,its there titled in sudanese history Nuer resistance& zande , our strongest grandsfathers fought them for thirty years without surrender, therefore world ought to take care in the process of solving this war of interest by kiir and American that supported him and his failed regime, despite those interest seekers , all in all , the victor will be in our side ,becouse in history you cann,t be judge of what you destroy but what you have built, our visions with the peace lover Dr machar, will be certain.

History can validate the professor’s statement on Nuers that they have never been colonize in particular as a tribe by any nation. The professor too seems to warn of the consequences of violation of the agreement and exclusion of the Oppositions in the agreement. As an academia, professor Mahmood Mamdani understands very well that the Nuers have proven capable in facing off with UPDF in Jonglei and prevailed, again Nuers overran the North Sudan Rebel and captured many of them in Upper Nile States during the ealy stages of the 2013 to 2014. On the other hand, the Jaang government resorts to hiring mercenaries without mentioning a great number of really strong Nuer generals are on Jaang side. Should these factors be not of any concern to Nuer fighters on the ground on the 3rd phase of this war, M. Mamdani will be true be right to warn not to disregard the Nuers as Jaang told M7 the lies about Nuers.
