The South Sudanese troubled president made his promise during the 23rd commencement of the Juba University today, on Saturday June 19, 2021, where at least 1,850 students graduated in different fields and specializations.

According to a Presidential press release extended to Nyamilepedia, Kiir in his remarks advised the graduates to utilize their knowledge to create jobs in order to be self-employed rather than seeking employment.

He further assured graduates that the government will employ people in the public sector based on technical knowledge instead of the person-you-know.

He said this merit-based recruitment policy will target young people mostly for employment in the public sector.

Kiir also stressed that he and Ministries concerned will work in collaboration to ensure that this recruitment policy is developed.

Juba University is the oldest public highest learning institution in the country, however, it is sometimes criticized for graduating “banana intellectuals”.
