October 15th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Kenyan police have arrest at least three Kenyan criminals who killed a South Sudanese refugee in Kakuma refugee camp early this month, several sources told Nyamilepedia.
Early this month, a South Sudanese refugee was killed by an unknown criminals who tried to robe three refugees resulting in death of one person with two others surviving the killing.
One source told Nyamilepedia on Monday that the Kenyan Police has arrested at least one suspect in connection with the murder of the South Sudanese man which sparked anger among South Sudanese refugees.
The source working at Kakuma Chief Office, who has been following up on the case has revealed on the condition of anonymity, that at least three people from the host community are on trial under police investigations and that the police will decide on the matter as soon as possible.
“Investigations into the matter are ongoing, and the police will discharge their responsibilities accordingly to ensure that, such an attack on refugee communities is not repeated,” the said.
The incident occurred on the 5th of September when a group of youths were attacked by unidentified gunmen from the host community after attending a conference in another camp. The attack on South Sudan’s refugee youths sparked outrage among the refugees.
Attacks on refugees and asylums seekers is a flagrant violation of international law, as stipulated in Article 2 of the 1951 Convention and Articles 3 to 34.
The Convention sets out the rights of all refugees regardless of their backgrounds, age, sex and other forms of discrimination.
Kenya hosts thousands of South Sudan refugees, who have been fleeing violence from their country since the onset of the conflict in December 2013.
South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and opposition leader Dr. Riek machar Teny-Dhurgon signed the long-awaited revitalized peace deal in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa in an effort by the regional bloc, the IGAD, to end the ongoing civil war raising hope of return for the refugees.
