The 5th year Medical student at Juba University who was arrested early last month pleaded not guilty to the charge of killing the three siblings.

During the cross examination before the high court today, Mr. Lokiri said that his earlier admission of guilt during police investigations were made under duress.

The key witness in the case apparently had learnt about the killing from someone else and could not identify Lokiri as the killer.

The Judge then pronounced the accused not guilty; however, the judge did not state when the accused will be released.

Lokiri had earlier confessed to the killing of the three children, Lydia Edward, 9, Blessings Edward, 7, and the 4-year-old Nura Edward, last month citing anger as the reason behind his motive.

“I found them watching television. I then put my phone to charge. I asked them where their mother was and they said she had gone out. When my phone charged a bit, I pocketed it. They were watching children’s programs and I asked them to change the channel and they refused. I asked them for the remote of the television and they said there was no remote, then I got angry,” he had confessed in a police statement.

The mother of the children, Gailda Kwenda Gideon, was arrested on Monday at Juba airport trying to leave the country illegally the same day the case was supposed to be heard.

When she was arrainged before the court yesterday, she apologized and blamed her decision on mental health.
