Mayor of Torit town sacked by Governor Lobong

Eastern Equatoria State, South Sudan

August 14, 2022 — South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria State Governor Luis Lobong on has sacked the Torit Municipal Council Mayor Joseph Aye Joseph Oswaha.

In a statement obtained by Nyamilepdia, Governor Lobong cited his gubernatorial powers and fired Torit Municipal Mayor without giving any explanation.

“In exercise of powers conferred upon me under the Republican Decree No. 5/2022 AD and in accordance with the article 165(2) of the transitional constitution of the republic of South Sudan, 2011 as amended read together with article 99(2a) of the Transitional Constitution of Eastern Equatoria State, 2011; I Louis Lobong Lojore Governor Eastern Equatoria State, do hereby issue this gubernatorial decree for the relieve of Mr. Joseph Aye Joseph Oswaha, Mayor of Torit Municipal Council, Eastern Equatoria State with effect from 9th August 2022.”, the decree reads.

Governor Lobong commended the fired Mayor for his commitment and services he delivered since his appointment.

“I would like to thank him for the services he rendered to the people of Torit Municipal Council during his tenure of office.”,Lobong appreciated.

For his part, Joseph Aye Joseph Oswaha said he was neither given reasons for his dismissal nor his replacement was named but said it’s a normal routine.

“Yes I heard I’m relieved but there is no problem with that. This is an official routine, I may not have anything to say more than this. This is a normal procedure,” Town Mayor Aye said.
