Malong won’t make “reckless” return to Juba like Machar did in 2016

August 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s former army chief General Paul Malong Awan will not make “reckless” return to Juba like Machar did in 2016, a senior Malong aide said Friday.

Early this week, President Salva Kiir Mayardit set several conditions for the return of Malong to the capital Juba which includes giving up on his soldiers fighting the government.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Friday, a senior opposition official allied to Malong said Malong is not returning to Juba to avoid reckless return similar to Machar’s in 2016.

“He is not going to Juba,” the opposition official who preferred the condition of anonymity said. “He won’t accept the reckless return as it happened to Riek [Machar] in 2016.”

Main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar returned to Juba in July 2016 with only a fraction of his forces provided by the agreement to be deployed in the capital Juba.

He was letter displaced and forced out of Juba following a fighting between his forces and those loyal to President Salva Kiir.

Machar had to work for almost 40 days to the Congolese border under hot goverent pursued to survive.

“We want to know and discuss with the government how we will go to Juba do that childish thinks don’t take place like it happened in 2016,” the official said.

He official further reiterated the commitment of Malong to the peaceful solution of the ongoing conflict urging the government to show similar sentiment.
