February 17th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, has agreed to form – with president Salva Kiir’s incumbent government – the transitional government of national unity next week.
This comes after Kiir agreed to an opposition demand to return the country to its original 10 states paving way for end to he deadlock over the number and boundaries of states.
Machar had said in a statement on Sunday that he do not agree with three administrative areas established by Kiir saying land dispute infests the latest return to ten states.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia this morning, an opposition official said the main armed opposition group will participate in the formation of the unity government with Kiir’s government.
“We have agreed to form the unity government with President Salva Kiir’s regime. This issue of administrative areas will not affect the formation of the government,” the opposition official said on condition of anonymity.
“The two principals will meet this afternoon and will hammer down the issue of the administrative areas,” he said.
The senior opposition official further said the two men will also discuss the security arrangement as the necessary unified forces are not in place and yet it is just three days away to the deadline.
“They will also discuss the security arrangement because the unified forces are not ready in place,” he further said.
