August 27th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A top rebel commander of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) has reconciled with main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar who is also the country’s First Vice-President designate, a top opposition official said.

The reconciliatory meeting between Machar and General Saddam Chayot Manyang took place on Monday in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa where Machar has been since last week.

There has been reports since last month that fighting between SPLA-IO troops and armed civilians in Maiwut let to disagreements between Machar and General Saddam Chayot Manyang forcing Machar to remove Adar state governor Stephen Pal Kun and forms reconciliatory committee.

In a statement issued on Monday, General Dak Tut Dey, an opposition official appointed by Machar to lead reconciliatory efforts, announced that Machar and Chayot Manyang have reconciled and that the differences between the two have been resolved.

“On behalf of Adar State PEACE and RECONCILIATION COMMITTEE and my own behalf, I am expressed my gratitude for everyone’s contribution and commitment toward our openhearted gestures of honesty and generosity to bring down the grudges of 2nd Lt. Gen. Saddam Chayot Manyang against his leadership,” General Dey said.

“Congratulations comrade Chairman Dr. Riek Machar, Comrade Saddam Chayot and key opinion leaders of the SPLM/A IO and loyal citizens of Adar State who want peace can find it only by complete forgiveness,” he added.
