October 31st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s former First Vice President and prominent opposition leader, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon has praised Sudanese President Field Marshall Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir for proving the ‘skeptics’ wrong on the ongoing South Sudan peace process.

Machar was uttering the remarks during as speech at Dr. John Garang de’Mabior Mausoleum in the capital Juba where a government-organized peace celebration is taking place.

Machar arrived in the capital Juba early this morning. During the visit which is first of its kind since he fled the country in July 2016 for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Machar will also attend a summit of the regional head of states aimed at taking measures of confident-building between the government and the opposition.

He praised Bashir for his commitment to achieving the good welfare for the South Sudanese people despite a July 2011 separation of South Sudan from Sudan saying he was the first to recognize the world’s youngest nation.

“In 2011, you (Al-Bashir) were the first to recognize the independence of South Sudan,” Machar said to Al-Bashir. “You (Al-Bashir) have proven the skeptics wrong,” he added.

Machar also praised the Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed for  his efforts to get him out of the ‘illegal’ detention in South African where he has been held until May this year as a part of regional conspiracy to prevent him from participating in the South Sudan politics
