Leek Community appeals for humanitarian assistance for floods affected population in Rubkona county.

August 3, 2021 — The leadership of Leek community is appealing for humanitarian assistance for the victims displaced by floods in remote areas of Rubkona county in Unity State.

Leek Community chairman, Hon. Lam Tungwar KueiGuong requests Humanitarian Agencies, Unity State government, oil companies and well wishers to assist his community.

” Am writing this appeal to bring to your notice that Rubkona County, or Leek Community at large is appealing to the government of Unity State, Humanitarian Agencies and persons of good will, oil companies, contractors in Unity Oil Field and many others to please come together with the community and the government of Unity State in Support towards the affected families by raising funds, materials and render any other support to help settled and support the currently displaced people in greater Rubkona county “, Lam Tungwar stated in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia.

According to the statement, Tungwar, who doubles as Unity State Minister of Physical Infrastructure, says the flood has negatively affected almost 20 villages in Rubkona county.

He says hunger, waterborne diseases and death of livestock in the areas is rampant as result of unabated flooding.

“As you are aware of the havoc caused by the recent flooding in Nhialdiu Payam, Chotjiok, Chanlual, Tuarkiel, Bil, Ngoapthoan, Tangadool, Rubnyegai, Ngop, Chiombarow, Nying Gatdet Dhuor, Dhorkan, Chuorchiengkuay, Tuet Payam of Kerlual and Rubkona Payam and many other places. “, the statement says.

” Many homes and properties had been destroyed, livestock dies and people massively have been affected by waterborne diseases, hunger had swift through families and looming crisis is around the corner as People’s crops had been affected greatly and there wouldn’t be enough food to harvest or expected to survive on after this rainy season “, it added.

Tungwar is pleading to the governmental and Non-governmental Organizations to support his floods affected community with food items and other health services necessary for their well-beings.

” We extremely need funds, material support and others to cover medications, clothes and shelters at this critical time, we appeal for support from every organization, individuals towards this great cause that will see our people stable until they go back to their homes soonest the flood water subsides “, Tungwar emphasized.

Last week, South Sudan minster of Petroleum, Puot Kang Chol ordered the Sudd Petroleum Oil Operating Company (SPOC) to renovate roads linking Tharjiath and other three counties in Southern part of Unity State a move which was applauded by many but also criticized by those whose areas weren’t mentioned in a renovation decision.
