August 12th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit was reluctant to signed the last week’s peace agreement with opposition groups in the Sudanese capital Khartoum under the auspices of the Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir, sources told the Nyamilepedia.

Last Sunday, the South Sudanese President, and prominent opposition and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon, along with other armed and non-armed opposition groups signed a peace agreement in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

Regional leaders rallied in the Sudanese capital shortly before the signing ceremony of the agreement which was supposed to be the last agreement between the parties to the South Sudan conflict.

One source told the Nyamilepedia from the Sudanese capital Khartoum that President Salva Kiir went to Khartoum hoping that the opposition groups would reject the agreement and get into trouble with the region but ended up instead in that position with the region.

“President Kiir went to Khartoum hoping that the opposition groups will reject the agreement and get into trouble with the region. In contrary, Kiir was surprised when himself ended the one rejecting the peace and only to be forced to sign the agreement,” the source told the Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity.

Another source said President Salva Kiir was in fact forced and threatened with punitive measures should he refuse to sign the agreement as signed by opposition groups including the SPLM-IO.

“As he said at the airport, President Kiir was in fact forced to sign the agreement. He was threatened with punitive measures if he do not sign the agreement,” the source also said on the condition of anonymity.
