January 2nd 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has said that all the preparations needed for the formation of a unity government provided for in the revitalized peace agreement will be ready by February 22nd.
Kiir, who signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement in 2018 with opposition groups, made the remarks at a gathering during the New Year’s Eve at the State House in Juba on Tuesday.
“I promise you peace through full commitment to implement the revitalized agreement on the resolution of the conflict in the republic of South Sudan and change of direction in government for the hope of all our people,” Kiir told the gathering attended by diplomats and representatives of opposition groups.
He urged the parties’ representatives to various peace mechanisms to focus on the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement so that all the preparations are in place by February 22.
“I urge those given the responsibility to implement the revitalized agreement to focus and ensure that all the critical security provisions are completed in time for establishment of the revitalized transitional government of national unity by 22nd February 2020,” he added.
