November 26th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A meeting between South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny which would have taken place in Addis Ababa to decide on the number and boundaries of states will now take place in South Sudan’s capital Juba, a senior opposition official said.

Kiir and Machar are obliged by an agreement they signed in September last year to settle a dispute on how many states should South Sudan have.

The matter has been one of the reasons why a Reconstituted Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) has not been formed in May – as provided for in the agreement – and November as the parties agreed during a May meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this afternoon, an opposition official in Juba said the two men will meet in Juba to decide how to settle the dispute on the number and boundaries of states.

The opposition figure who insisted that his name is not quoted said the two men will not discuss other critical issues such as the security arrangements because the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC) is working on it since the government has provided funds needed for their activities.

“The meeting will be during the first weeks of December before the Christmas Holidays,” the official said. “But this time it will not be in Addis Ababa. It will be here in Juba.”
