September 11th 20-19 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar have failed to reach an agreement over the number and borders of states.

The two principals instead opted to form a committee to look into the report of the Independent Boundaries Commission (IBC].

Speaking to reporters following today’s meeting at J1, SPLM-IO deputy chairperson Hendry Odwar said the two principal opted to form a committee to study the report of the Independent Boundary Commission (IBC).

“The two principals have agreed that ‘yes we will have a committee’ and this committee will look into the IBC report,” Odwar told journalists at the State House in Juba.

“ …. if they reach a consensus that would be great and if they don’t reach a consensus then the principals will have to come to gather again and come up with a final statement on the situation on the number of states.”

Machar arrived in Juba on Monday accompanied by Sudan’s deputy chairperson of the Sovereignty Council General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo who is also known as Hemeti.

His return to Juba raised hope for the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement he signed with Kiir in September last year in Addis Ababa to end the ongoing civil war.
