December 11th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny have again failed to find solution for the dispute on the states issue.

The two men signed a peace deal last year but a disagreement on how many states should be there in South Sudan is hampering efforts to restore stability in the world’s youngest nation.

South Sudan presidency said in a statement that the consultative meeting between the two men was attended by the deputy leader of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

“The consultative meeting between President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar comes in a bid to evaluate progress on the implementation of the outstanding issues which include the number of states and their boundaries after the parties failed to agree on the issue last week,” the presidency said in a statement.

The statement quoted Machar as saying that the two men are “working to ensure that the agreement is implemented.”

For his part, Presidential adviser on security affairs, Tut Gatluak said, “the meeting discussed the implementation of the pending issues that are hindering the implementation of the peace agreement, especially the issue of the number of states.”

Gatluak added that Kiir and Machar will meet with security mechanisms “to review progress on the implementation of the security arrangements.”
