Kiir dismiss deputy finance minister, appoints successor

July 27th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, has dismissed the country’s finance minister almost eight months after the later was appointed into the office in a cabinet reshuffle Kiir thought would revive the economy.

In a degree read on the state-owned SSBC, the president gave no reason for the dismissal of the deputy governor replacing him with Goc Makuach who was the Chairperson of the South Sudan Parliament’s Committee for Economic and Financial Affairs.

Athian was appointed to the position by president Kiir in December 2017.

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit, according to the Presidential Press Unit met today at the State House with the country’s Governor of Central Bank, Dier Tong, and his two deputies.

The President and the Central Bank governor discussed the current economic situation in the Country.

“Hon. Dier Tong said he came with his two deputies to brief the President on the current Economic Situation and the measures the Central Bank administration is taking to improve the Economy. Dier added that Central Bank is taking drastic measure for the South Sudanese Pound to gained against the hard currency,” said a statement by the Presidential Press Unit.

The statement said the head of the Central Bank reiterates its efforts to lower the price of the United States dollar against the South Sudanese pounds.

“Dier reiterates that Central Bank Administration will make sure the dollar drooped low against South Sudanese Pound so that the market stabilized better for the citizen. Mr. Dier said he also briefed the President on the policy of the Electronic Currency which will be implemented by the Central Bank in collaboration with Private Banks through Mobile Money,” it said.
