Kiir asks Jubek elders to bring back their “son” Cirilo to join peace

February 5th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, asked on Tuesday, Jubek state elders to help ensure his government bring back Gen. Thomas Cirilo, who hails from the state, in order to join the ongoing peace efforts in the country.

The South Sudan Presidency said in a statement this afternoon that President Kiir asked the Jubek elders in a meeting held today at the Presidential Palace “J1” in Juba.

Among the issues discussed were the issue of presence of cattle in the capital Juba and land grabbing as well as child abduction which came as result of over population and increase in criminal activities following the outbreak of war in December 2013.

“The Elders of Jubek State met with H.E, President Salva Kiir Mayardit at the State House on Tuesday morning to discuss a number of issues facing the local community of Jubek State, especially the issue of land grabbing, the presence of cattle in the city and child abduction,” the Presidency announced in a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia.

“President Kiir said the government will establish strong measures to ensure that all the cattle are evacuated from the national capital,” the statement added.

The Presidential Press Secretary Ateny Wek Ateny further said during statements that the elders promised President Kiir that they will make sure that they bring back Gen. Thomas Cirilo who hails from Jubek.

“The elders of Jubek State have committed themselves to bring back their son Thomas Cirilo Swaka, in order to join President Salva Kiir on the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement,” the statement quoted Ateny Wek as saying.

For his part, Paterno Legge who spoke on behalf of the elders, requested for support to ensure that their Son Thomas Cirilo is brought back to join the peace implementation process.
