February 4th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, have accused unnamed government officials of working to derail the ongoing peace process meant to end the ongoing civil war.

Kiir was speaking to a group of intellectuals belonging to the Jieng Council of Elders (JCE) in the capital Juba on Friday.

“They (government officials) are not happy about peace and that’s why they are now working to derail the peace agreement I signed myself with the rebels,” Kiir said.

Kiir said those he identified as “corrupt” government officials do not want the peace to return home because they know they will not have again the opportunity to steal public money.

“They are corrupt and they don’t want peace to come because some of them will be out of my government and will not be able to steal public money again,” he added pointing out that he has “been a victim of their making even when I don’t carry one pound in my pocket from the public money to my house.”

South Sudan government and opposition groups in September last year signed a peace agreement in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to end the ongoing civil war.

The agreement was reached following an intense talks in the Sudanese capital Khartoum between parties’ delegates who only had until August 5th to reach a preliminary deal.
