April 29th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government said on Friday that the political unrest in Sudan is affecting the oil production in the world’s youngest nation.
Last week, South Sudan’s Petroleum Minister, Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth told Reuters that ongoing Sudan crisis has affected the oil production because protesters had closed Port Sudan which is the only gateway for the South Sudan’s oil to international market.
However, the ruling Sudanese Transitional Military Council (TMC) dismissed last week the claim and said the oil production and shipment is still ongoing in normal image.
However, speaking to journalists in Friday, information minister, Michael Makuei said the ongoing political situation in Sudan is affecting the country’s oil flow.
“The problem in Khartoum is affecting this sector, because there are certain chemicals that are supposed to be imported via Port Sudan and these are the chemicals used for oil processing,” Makuei told reporters in Juba.
“We have a lot of oil which should have been lifted by now, but has accumulated in Port Sudan. This is another problem we face,” he added.
