August 18th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The construction of South Sudan’s high-way connecting the country’s capital Juba with several states in the region of Bahr El-Ghazal has been suspended, a source with knowledge said.

In March, South Sudan government signed a deal with a Chinese road construction firm to build 400 Kilometers of road connecting the capital with Bahr El-Ghazal region. The government allocated a daily budget of 30 barrels of crude oil.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Sunday, a government official in Lado County of Jubek state said the construction of road couldn’t go through because some community members of Lado county wants to be compensated before it continues.

The source said the community have the rights to demands for compensation from the company or the government for using gravel from their hillock known as Jebel Lado north of Juba.

Before they could move with an inch, they demands that the government compensate them and I think this is logic and yes we the government is developing our country but at personal level, you can’t do that without paying the person affected,” the government official said.

The government official said because of the issue, the construction of the company couldn’t go through because the government do not wants to commit to the demand of the Lado community.
