March 13th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A holdout opposition group has labelled as baseless a report by the Khartoum based news outlet, Al-Intibaha, that its leader met South Sudan’s intelligence chief, Gen. AKol Koor last week in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa over possible return to South Sudan and the prior ending of rebellion.

On Tuesday, the Al-Al-Intibaha reported that Gen. Thomas Cirilo Swaka who is the leader of the National Salvation Front (NAS) as well as the leader of the holdout opposition umbrella, South Sudan National Democratic Alliance (SSDNA), met South Sudan’s Director of Internal Security Bureau, Gen. Akol Koor, in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

The newspaper alleged that Gen. Akol Koor asked Gen. Cirilo to drop his rebellion and return to the country to join the ruling SPLM faction led by President Salva Kiir Mayardiit in return for a vice president position.

Speaking to the Nyamilepedia on Wednesday, the NAS deputy spokesman, Wazir Michael Liah, denied that a meeting had took place between the spy chief and the prominent opposition leader in Addis Ababa saying Cirilo did not spoke to them.

The report is not true. Our Chairman didn’t talk to Al-Intibaha about anything related to what they posted,” he said.

Asked why the Khartoum-based Al-Intibaha news agency would do this, Wazir replied: “They are the one who are supposed to answer this question.”
