October 20th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A high-level meeting with visiting United Nations Security Council (UNSC) delegation today will include discussing the status of opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar, a senior opposition official said this morning.

Machar has been under house arrest in Pretoria and Khartoum since October 2016. A meeting of IGAD foreign ministers few months ago referred the decision on Machar to the head of states and government.

The IGAD leaders were supposed to meet in September but because they were not allowed to do so by the 74th United Nations General Assembly they couldn’t deliberate on the issue.

“The meeting with the UN delegation will also discuss the status of the Chairman and Commander in Chief [Dr. Riek Machar],” the opposition official who requested not to be named said from Juba.

Early, government spokesman and information minister Michael Makuei Lueth told the Nyamilepedia that the high-level UN delegation expected in Juba has arrived.

The delegation – Makuei said – will visit a cantonment area near juba before meeting President Kiir and opposition groups who are part of the revitalized peace agreement signed in September last year.

The opposition official said the meeting will also discuss the “security arrangement (Cantonmenent of forces, registration, screening, training and unification and deployment of forces.”

“The meeting will also discuss the demilitarization of Juba and important tiwns, the number and boundaries of states plus the constitutional amendment.”
