October 5th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The Gajaak community in the Arab Republic of Egypt has distanced itself from General Ochan Puot who defected in September to the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

Before his defection, General Ochan accused main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny of causing instability in the area saying troops loyal to him mistreated a section of Gajaak civilians.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Friday, James Gattiek Duop, the Chairman of Gajaak Community in the Arab Republic of Egypt said they haven’t defected with General Ochan nor the Cie-wau section of the Gajaak did that saying it was a group of opportunists from everywhere in Gajaak who decided to exploit their name.

“We haven’t defected and Cie-wau haven’t defected. It is a group if people who want to exploit our name,” Duop said.

Duop further reiterated the commitment of the Gajaak community in supporting the armed struggle against the regime which “murdered our people in cool blood in December 2013.”
